CONTEXT
For women who undertake a migration journey alone, the reality is a continuum of violence, from the country of origin, throughout the journey, and even in the host country. Transit points such as Libya, Morocco or Greece are particularly dangerous. According to the Women’s Refugee Commission, 90% of migrant women are reported to have been raped during their Mediterranean crossing.
This violence has lasting effects on the physical and mental health of exiled women, often deprived of care for months. Luxembourg offers basic reception structures, but support specifically dedicated to survivors of sexual violence remains a blind spot. It is this gap that the project fills.

THE PROJECT
Initiated and coordinated by Stand Speak Rise Up!, in cooperation with local reception structures and organisations (Luxembourg Red Cross, RYSE, etc.), the SOAR project (Support, Opportunity and Resilience) promotes the social and economic integration of refugee women in Luxembourg who survived sexual violence during exile, using a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach.
- Provide specialised psychological support to overcome trauma;
- Offer vocational training and language courses (Luxembourgish and/or French);
- Provide legal and administrative support (rights, recognition of diplomas, equivalences);
- Create spaces for sisterhood and networking, and raise awareness among male partners and judicial staff.
