Project Description
/Addressing sexual and gender-based violence in Leer County, South Sudan

July-September 2020
Leer County, South Sudan
In partnership with Hope Restoration South Sudan (HRSS ) / United Nations
Context :
Hope Restoration South Sudan operates two spaces for women and girls, one in Leer TPA and the other in Leer town. The Leer TPA center has a total of 125 women and 70 girls, a number that continues to grow every day. The centers offer support to survivors of sexual violence through counseling sessions, formal education, vegetable cultivation, cultural activities, hygienic clothing, school materials, etc. The women and young girls of Leer Town are also engaged in a process of economic empowerment.
Covid-19 has reduced the number of visits to these centers. Cases of sexual violence have increased due to insecurity and lack of food. One of the problems faced by women is access to quality essential health services.
The project :
The objective of this project is therefore to contribute to reducing the consequences on the physical and mental health of women and girls who are victims of sexual violence and to strengthen the capacities of existing health services in Leer County, in order to ensure greater responsiveness to the needs of victims and improve the management of complications.
This project will rely on (among others ) the following means:
– Provide psychosocial assistance through individual consultation.
– Provide PEP kits (HIV post-exposure prevention kit) to survivors of sexual violence.
– Organize two radio programs to raise awareness of protective measures for victims of sexual violence and how victims can access medical assistance.
– Conduct 3 awareness campaigns on sexual violence
