Support for the education of children born of rape

February 2023 – December 2026, in partnership with Golden Women Vision in Uganda

Education Ouganda enfants nés du viol

CONTEXT

Conflict-related sexual violence is a key feature of armed conflict and political upheaval in Uganda. The consequences for victims are devastating. As in many conflicts, sexual violence is used as a weapon of war in Uganda. It systematically targets civilians and destroys communities and social harmony. Sexual violence has serious physical, psychological and socio-economic repercussions on its victims. Yet progress in repairing or mitigating these harms is limited.

33 children born of rape supported

THE PROJECT

Stand Speak Rise Up! fights the exclusion and stigmatization of children born of rape by offering them better prospects for the future. We are financing the education of 33 children born of rape, for a period of four years, from nursery school to university level.

The project includes a mentoring component, with visits by association delegates to the children’s places of education. The aim is to monitor and coach the children and check that they are not encountering any difficulties. Furthemore, mentors encourage them to continue their school attendance efforts.

Since 2023, we have already been measuring the impact of this project: better academic results, improved concentration and willingness to study on the part of the pupils. The project also creates a sense of solidarity, community, hope and resilience among the previously stigmatized children.

Thanks to the L’Oréal Fund for Women and the Coromandel Foundation for their invaluable support.
