Project Description

/ Screening of Muganga – Celui qui soigne at Utopia Cinema Luxembourg

08/06/2026

In partnership with the Lions Club Vauban, a special screening of Muganga – The Healer was held at Utopia Cinema in Luxembourg.

Directed by Marie-Hélène Roux, the documentary traces the journey of Dr. Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and member of the Board of Directors of Stand Speak Rise Up!.

A Full House and Two Powerful Voices

Before a packed audience, H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Chekeba Hachemi, co-founders of the association, addressed the audience following the screening.

The Grand Duchess spoke movingly about the origins of her commitment alongside Dr. Denis Mukwege. Since meeting him in 2016, when he asked her to help bring visibility to survivors of wartime rape, she took the initiative to organise the first Stand Speak Rise Up! International Forum in 2018. She later co-founded the association with Chekeba Hachemi, which now carries this mission forward in Luxembourg and around the world.

Civic Engagement, Positive Masculinity and Education

Together, the two co-founders highlighted the essential role of civic engagement, positive masculinity and education in preventing and combating sexual violence.

They then answered questions from the audience, in the presence of Tilly Metz, Member of the European Parliament, Christa Broemmel, Member of the Luxembourg City Council, Josée Letsch, President of the CNFL, as well as journalists, partners and students.

A heartfelt thank you to Gaby Damjanovic and the Lions Club Vauban for making this inspiring evening possible.

Taking Concrete Action Alongside Survivors

Beyond raising awareness, Stand Speak Rise Up! continues to take concrete action on the ground alongside survivors and children born of rape, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through education projects, sexual and reproductive health support, the construction of homes, and income-generating activities, the association works to help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
